The Gates Millennium Scholars program has implemented a system of noncognitive variables to select more than 3,000 Pell Grant eligible Asian /Pacific Islander American college and university students since 2000. Empirical data show that these students are doing well at some of the most selective schools in the country. Additionally, the students are using their noncognitive attributes to their advantage in working the higher education system and overcoming stereotypes after they matriculate in higher education. It takes more than grades and test scores to make it in higher education for many Asian/pacific Islander Americans.
